it started as random ramblings (that I'm still blaming on Heddy) about life, guiding, Pax Lodge, knitting, postcards and whatever else spewed forth from my keyboard...it hasn't changed too much, except now J is part of our life. And well, I write a lot about her and not as much (as I used to) about those other things

Turkey - USA - New York City
Postcard from Daria_Dalia from Turkey.
Description: The Empire State Building, built in 1931, was the tallest building in the world until 1971 when the first tower of the World Trade Center was completed.
This was the first postcard Daria_Daila had registered (I guess it's a day of receiving firsts in the mail!) - I've had a few postcards like this - from a country different than the card - and I'd guess it's because of travelling. I'm not usually organized enough to send postcrossing cards when we're away...

Until the fall...
Not news: The Canucks lost last night, ending their playoff run.
Maybe I'm a bad fan, I don't know, but I'm kind of looking forward to not spending my evenings watching hockey...don't get me wrong, I'd be cheering as loudly as possible if they were still playing, but there is so much to look forward to with no more hockey, like more evenings at the park and less "Luongo is evil" chatter.
My kid on the other hand cried twice last night when we explained that hockey was done until the fall. The first time she stopped pretty quickly when we said it would mean lots of park time. The second time she sobbed for a long time. She would miss her Chris Higgins and her Ryan Kesler. And maybe even Robert Luongo. We explained that the hockey players' kids would be happy because they'd get to see more of their dads at night and because she understands that very well, she decided it was okay. But only if they come back in the fall.
Who knows what the team will look like when the new season starts...I do feel badly for Roberto Luongo. Sure he's had some spectacularly bad nights in goal, but more often than not he has spectacular nights in goal - just look at his record. I'm pretty sure he had substantially more wins than losses this season. And he played well in Games 1 and 2...you can't expect the goalie to stop the other team AND score...
Anyway, hockey, have a good summer. We'll see you in October.

Start of a reverse sweep?
One can dream, right?
Let's just hope that with Schneider in net, Daniel Sedin back on the ice and the season hanging by a thread the Canucks can win...we'll be cheering loudly at our house.
[not sure where the photo originated - it was emailed to me by a friend]

Team Hardcore goes to Boston
In our family, we have one person we affectionately refer to as Team Hardcore (that would be my sister Kelsey) and today Team Hardcore is running her heart out in Boston. Boston is a little further away than Penticton (where she had 20+ supporters when she completed her second IronMan (that's her, crossing the finish line)...
...but she has seven supporters out there today - our parents and sister Rebecca and my mom's cousin Susu and her family. And of course all her supporters cheering her on a continent away.
She's on pace for 3:36 which I'm pretty sure is faster than her qualifying time. You can follow her here if you're interested (just put her name in).
Go Kelsey!
