"Canadian Food" for Hiromi

I was chatting with Hiromi tonight and we were both getting excited about her upcoming trip. Our friend Megan is getting married and Hiromi is coming from Japan for the wedding and will be one of four guests staying at my house before the wedding. We were discussing food and what we might eat while we're here. We're going to go out for sushi at least once so that Hiromi can tell us if our sushi is *real* sushi and we'll maybe make Japanese food one night...

But I asked Hiromi what she likes/dislikes/is allergic to and she can eat everything and wants to have "Canadian Food" while she's here. So of course we'll have pancakes, but Hiromi, just for you I thought I'd show you what we had for dinner tonight.

It started out looking like this (no, we weren't going to ingest the propane, it's for the bbq)

food before cooking

And ended up looking like this...

food after cooking

We've got carrot salad from Morocco, chicken with a decidedly Asian influenced marinade, potatoes and onions done in foil on the bbq, grilled zucchini (does its Italian name make it Italian) and apricots...so, typical Canadian meal, influenced by a number of cultures but with nothing that's really "typical" of Canadians...

So Hiromi, there you go...a Canadian meal. I promise we won't just go out for sushi while you're here! Mexican food is good too and Irish tea and Baileys are yummy....
